Any old AT cases

I know this is a long shot, but I have to ask (again). Besides my painful hunt for a 5170 case I'm also looking for an AT tower (486 style).

Preferably with at least 3 5.25" bays so I can get two 5.25 floppies and a Syquest in there.
More bays it has, the more money I can offer, bonus cash if it has an LCD readout!

I'm having real trouble finding any, and putting my 486DX2/66 in a Concord 286XT case is just weird.

I'm bound to have something at work, I will have a look on monday and give you some options. Can't help with the 5170 case sorry.

edit; have two AT cases in the to be wrecked pile, only have two 5 1/2 drive spaces but both have LCD readouts on the front.

epic, that would be awesome, let me know what you have and how much you want.

Yeah I'm expecting to get the 5170 from the US. Currently the only one available will be $500 delivered, but I'm sure I can get it for closer to $250 delivered with patience.

You asked miles too late dude!
In BabyAT generic towers they only ever had two 5.25" bays unless you went full tower. I had a BabyAT full tower recently but to make room for more Fiero parts it ended up going to the scrap metal dealer. I'll take a look though, just in case I have anything else.

Wildly OT, but... a Fiero? Now there's an unusual choice. Probably the only American car I'd willingly own. I haven't seen one in years though.

S'alright, all good forums have a bit of OT going on!

Yep, I have two Fieros, an '87 SE V6 and an '86 coupe T-top. The T-top is my current resto project and the reason I've been having to curb my spending on vintage computers!

As for the original topic, I checked my case stack today. I have five Baby AT minitowers left, all of them are 2x5.25" only. You sure you need dual 5.25" floppy drives? Most legit 486 setups in towers were single 5.25" drive, if any.

Wow, 5 spare!

Well the idea wasn't so much to be authentic, but more so that I could have a single disk generator. But I realised my Compaq Pentium MMX box was a 3 bay model and had USB - so today I made that in to the new disk creator. It now has 1.2Mb + 360Kb + 1.44 USB + flash drive support + network + second hard drive. Completely loaded with connectivity/storage - so it'll do a brilliant job.

So, long story short, don't absolutely need 3 bays, but still after a case with the LCD display. I have everything else (old CDROM, SoundBlaster16, VLBus graphics and EIDE etc) to make a fairly authentic 486 game box. For some reason I was always loved those speed readouts - even though I know they're just jumpered.

Each time I've tried buying a case, it hasn't had the LCD and it's had a pesky Pentium installed that works perfectly.

Offtopic - and good work on the Fiero, I don't think I've ever even seen one in person but I had the radio control version as a kid!

Sadly the only one of these towers with the readout is my personal one with my K6-2 in it, because I added it :)

I do have a nice desktop case with a readout, it's also got speakers and an LED VU meter on the front? I'm missing its hard drive bracket but you could improvise, and I believe it does have three 5.25" bays, although you'd have to sacrifice one for a drive mounting bracket. If not it'll also get a K6-2 and will be repurposed as a jukebox or something I guess.

And if you're counting toy Fieros I have six - I've got an remote control one and three Matchbox/HotWheels type ones too :D BUT now we're REALLY going OT and I should just do what I was thinking of doing earlier and create an OT thread for discussing various external hobbies since it's obscenely obvious that everyone here is equally into 80s sports coupes as well as 80s computers. Aren't you a bit of a Starion boy yourself SpidersWeb?

New garage to setup in two weeks, looking forward to having room for projects again.

I'll see what manuka has, sounds like he has a few towers possibly that might fit my needs but failing that I'll send you a PM.

Thanks for the help guys, makes up for losing that Apple II auction today!

Nope... He wasn't the last bidder. :P

Was really surprised to win the auction. Bidding was going great guns, and I put in one single bid at $152 and bidding stopped. I guess $150 was everyone's limit.

Oh glad you got it.

I was prepared to go to $300, but I realised I had other responsibilities so let it pass. I have boxes of Apple II app disks but no II.

If you're still after an AT case with an LCD front I have three, I'm not worried about the internals so think of them as a bonus. I'm going to put them up on trademe for a start price of $20 so I can let you know when I do if you are keen on one

that is the exact case I had when I upgraded my case as a teenager
epic!!!!

Edit: who sees a voodoo two? I do, you do, we all do. (the inards will be very helpful for upgrading my Pentium boxes - once is pretty flakey - so would be put to good use)
