Early System 80 on Trade Me

You guys would have seen it. I don't have a version 1 model of the System 80 and wondered about going for this myself. But then even though these are favourites I probably have enough System 80s. Besides, I have an expensive X/Profile Lisa hard drive emulator to pay for. :)

As you probably know I do have a specific website for System 80s on my domain, which has lots of support, technical information and even programs. I note the machine is not working. These are simple computers and apart from the ROM chips there are no propritory ICs. They are normally fixable with the right technical knowledge and tools, and spare parts scavenged from other junk computers of around the same period.

Good luck with those that might bid. These computers were significant in NZ around 1980-1982 and certainly worth having in the collection.

looking very cheap at this stage. I'm still asking myself how many computers of a particular model do I really need in considering a museum. One for classroom, and then ones various different displays, whether showing by make, some sort of aesthetic arrangement, etc. The System 80s have one of the best classic looks of the old computers and their size commands a great presence in any display. I will wait and see if someone else in particular bids in the last minute, otherwise I'll be leaving this auction alone.

Oh well, another rarity leaves NZ and at much lower price than any of my System 80s I have bought, but I can't afford that kind of money just to keep rare example machines in NZ. Maybe not Video Genie's, but I'm sure there still a few more System 80 machines lurking around in basements in this country.

Well, you gave them a good run for their money Clinton.

I didn't go for too bad a price considering there was no way to verify it was working.

I still can't get over how LOW that Mac 512k went for!

Yeah, if I hadn't just bought the 512Ke (new caps should be here early next week BTW) I would have been all over that. I think the shipping is the killer for items like that; when it costs $100 for shipping alone, even $26 is pushing the total purchase price near to what it's worth. Personally, I've decided that the only other Mac I'll look for now is the 128k. (Well, that and the Macintosh XL, though I'd put that firmly in the Lisa camp)
