Macintosh Performa 5500 Director Edition

Was this the only black desktop computer Apple ever made?

The price seems a little steep, but I'm not much into Macs past the SE/30, so I wouldn't really know.

If all Macs were black I'd have liked them a lot more (actually same for PCs too, beige doesn't get me up in the morning)

Not the only one. There was the Macintosh TV, which was essentially an LC 520, very similar vintage. The 5500/250 is way more badass though, it takes the good looking 5x00 design and replaces the terrible motherboard with something of substance. Ooooh, you could possibly talk him down on price too - nonmatching mouse! :)

Nope.. They also made this thing of beauty under license for bell and howell. (Apple II+ for the educational market)
