Hi
I have this Apple Macintosh LC III which is regurgitating the 3 1/2" diskette. This same diskette(s) are loading ok on my Linux box. Any ideas what can be causing this behaviour? Should I remove the Mac floppy and clean the heads?

Yes.. The starting point is always clean the heads.

If it won't read. Clean the heads. If it won't load. Clean the heads. If it makes funny noises. Clean the heads. If a family member has the flu. Clean the heads.... etc

THEN look for the possibility of a latch not completing, or a sensor not correctly detecting the disk.

Heads cleaned. No joy.

My knowledge is limited...I will leave it for now until I manage to find a working LC which I can use the floppy :)

Progress...

Using as 1.0MB floppy I managed to format a single side (400KB) disk. Two sides (800KB) fails at the verify step. 1.44MB floppies always give error messages at the verify phase (and the disk is ejected).

The top head spring is broken and the head is not working anymore. Better to replace the entire FDD...
