was using atari ste when sparking sounds then a big puff of smoke. atari continued working and is still going fine. will post pictures of psu soon. looks like the 0.01uf cap has rip itself apart. $1.20 fix. question is how many people have had this blow and is it a sign of some other problem.

I have had the same problem on Apple IIe's and BBC Compact recently. Got a some replacement parts via Ebay as it was a lot cheaper. Just waiting for the second lot to arrive to complete repairs on the Apple IIe PSU - there are 2 RIFA that need replacing.
Got to love the acrid smoke smell - lingers around for several days!

Yes The Rifa's are problem also a small tip If you have further problems Measure the High value resistors as these often go Twice their indicated value.
Good Luck Ray
