I am sad to read today
that Doug Englebart, a man who fundamentally shaped the past 4 decades of computing, has passed away aged 88.
Widely heralded as the inventor of the mouse his vision and contributions are far more wide ranging and important than one thing. Englebart and his Menlo Park team at SRI developed many of the things we see today as recent innovations, and demostrated them as far back as 1968.
I am taking a minute of silence to reflect on this man's amazing contributions to human kind.
I wrote a short piece
about Englebart and his acheivements on my blog back in 2011, with links to videos and interviews.
