I'm hopefully picking up a working Apple IIe Platinum from Wanganui this weekend, and would be keen to catch up with other collectors in the area. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll let you know my travel plans once I hear back from the seller

I'll be around this weekend. You're welcome to call in for a coffee and a look at the manshack where the vintage computing work is done.

Is the person you are picking the Apple up from a hard-core Apple collector and likely to have lots of parts? I'm still looking for a few ICs (keyboard driver and 65C02 CPU) for one of my IIes.

I'm don't think the seller is a collector or enthusiast, but I haven't managed to get in touch about this weekend yet so I'll ask when I do. I can't offer any spares myself; I stupidly threw away a IIe Platinum with a missing key and a couple of IIe clones several years ago and now find that they're not as common as they once were!

I'd be interested in hearing about anything that was available too... (although I'm flyin' blind on repairing my platinum right now, which is why it'll be on it's way to Tezza soon. )

I'll be driving up this morning, and expect to be in Wanganui about 1pm. I'll pass through Palmy on the way back, mid afternoon.

One of the joys of traveling as a family is the unpredictability and futility of planning. As a result we were running 3 hours behind schedule by the time we were ready to leave Wanganui. We're still on the road as I write this!

Nonetheless we've had an enjoyable day, and I leave with a fully working IIe Platinum, and a bonus Powerbook 190cs. The gentleman who gave me the Powerbook said he'd just recently given away a mint IIc, formerly his family PC. You win some...

All in all not a bad day, but a shame not to have had the time to meet up with Terry. Next time

I have my Apple IIe platinum out right now to test the "Wanganui haul" drives and can't help but admire the stylish swept-back case. Iconic 80s. The keyboards on the Platinums feel very firm and professional.

Did it come with drives and screen? Can we ask what you paid for it, or was it gifted? Too bad about the Apple IIc.

The Platinum came with the Color Composite Monitor and 5.25" drive pictured. Both go, although the monitor is somewhat temperamental. I suspect that some contact cleaner on the pots will sort it out. It also came with a bunch of floppies, some of which work. The case has suffered a rather brutal attack from a bottle of Jif, much of which is still in the crack between the case and top cover. The "Apple IIe" label is intact but very dirty.

I paid $90, more than I normally would but with the monitor and IIe both tested and working I made something of an impulse decision to buy. The petrol probably cost more than shipping would have, but we got to visit with my wife's relatives as well.
