Popularity of IBM PS/2s

Just as a topic of conversation, do you guys have a take on how popular IBM PS/2s were in New Zealand in the late 1980s? I'm engaged with a discussion on PS/2s on another forum at the moment. Until the whole PS/2 thing (rapidly) ran out of steam due to the MCA (Microchannel) bus, they seem to have been popular with corporate America, especially those with a standard ISA-type bus.

I suspect they weren't good sellers here due to high prices and the sheer number of inexpensive Asian clones (of acceptable quaility). However, I was never out there in the business/IT world to get a feel for this first hand, so I might be wrong.

Anyone know or have an opinion?

Limited appeal for most except IBM diehards, even at the time it seems. I've seen significantly more retired Compaq Prosignias than PS/2s, I'm guessing Compaq just beat IBM down on price for similar or better equipment at that stage? I know Compaq were behind EISA and the push with Intel into PCI... and both those acts were in retaliation to MCA, so who knows. I can only go on what I find for recycling and what I've read in history books ;)
