Interesting SX-64 on Trademe at the moment.

It's interesting to see how the spacebar has yellowed. That exactly the same symptom mine had when I first obtained it. Weird. Must be a different kind of plastic.

Anyway, this is a bit of a collector's classic. Mine also had issues originally but I managed to fix it.

Ooooohhhhh, that's cool. Too bad it's pick up only from Auckland, I don't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting that baby down here... and I think the wife would spew, she was angry enough when I bought my CDTV :)

That's too bad. If lived in Auckland I'd be tempted to pick up a spare.

Yes, on a forum just recently I read a spouse being referred to as a "female guidence unit". hehe

It was in reference to the general disapproval of partners to old computers cluttering up the place. :D

Turned down one early this year. I offered a hundred as a buy now (hard to price, as they vary from about $20-$150US in ebay, and was a whole bunch of cheap ones when I looked, which might be the sign of the economic times) if they person would ship for a pick up only auction that had an opening bid of $50, and was mislisted in Antiques & Collectibles. It passed in, and I was offered it for $100, but I then decided it felt a bit funny paying a premium that was an incentive to ship, rather than being motivated to post knowing an item would go to an interested person, so I left it. That person might still have one for sale in Auckland (I think), and I can dig out the seller handle for anyone if wanted.

I think one will turn up again eventually so will wait. I hope my one of old is still here in Dunedin and will find it again by serendipity.

Yes, shipping is a bugbear with these things. It's bad enough bringing in thing from overseas but shipping is an issue even within New Zealand!

I can understand it when people have a shipping "premium" or refuse to ship. These things are a hassel to pack and there is always the risk of damage and a "blame game" if that happens. I've been lucky in that with some of the heaver items I have got in the past (the PET for example), the seller has been quite willing to pack, provided I arranged the transport.

Well done! It looks in good condition.

$170. I thought it might go for around the $200 mark so that's not a bad price.

You may or may not have seen this on the web (http://project64.c64.org/hw/sx64diag.txt)

It has a diagnostic guide and mentions blank screens.

I see you've suggested the VIC IC as the probable fault on the Trademe listing Sean. That would be my opinion too.

The SX-64 is not too difficult to repair if you take your time and are careful. My unit had faulty RAM when I first acquired it, and I managed to fix it.

Had a really big chip swapping session with my good ol dad and got a fully functioning SX-64 now, I even got the two blue circles that go on the sides and a cleaner keyboard. I'm going to sell my other SX-64 on trademe for a bit of dosh to help get me a new laptop because my other one bit the big kumara today, I even had Windows 7 on it.

Well done Sean,

What was wrong with it in the end. Faulty RAM?
