Seen on my twitter feed.

Jason Scott, author of "Get Lamp" and "BBS:the documentary" will be in Auckland and Wellington in February and would like to interview people who code 6502 assembly, or use/used reel to reel tape. Contact Jason at (presumably) jason@textfiles.com

Wow, I did quite a bit of 6502 about 30 years ago.... not so much these days.

The best "story" was a travelling salesman type algorithm which was written in Basic. It asked for a start town and a destination town in NZ. When you asked for the calculation, it generally took about 1-2 minutes in the main loop. Too slow.

I took the main calc loop and rewrote it using the assembler and it cut the time down to 3-10 seconds. Interpreted basic on the Apple II wasn't good at that stuff!

Those were the days....

Same here did a bunch of 6502 coding for the OSI.

Lots of people just dont get the zen of it. Its all about using zero page addressing and lookup tables.

Ive spent some time reading apple assembly line - do a google for it. Theres examples of doing stuff faster and faster and fastet. The BYTE prime sieve is a good example, they shaved that time down humungously to the point that a little old 6502running at 1 mhz gave 68Ks and VAXes a run for their money...

That travelling salesman optimization sounds greally cool
