Hello

Introduce yourself. Tell people why you are interested in vintage computers and what (if anything) you've got.

Hello

Postby fireman on Mon Nov 21, 2011 6:58 pm

After too many years playing with big dollar computers for a living and ignoring the yearning for the good old days of the 6502 and Z80 powered machines I've finally found the time to start playing with and collecting the machines that got me interested in what turned into my career. My initial focus will be collecting Apple ][ hardware with an emphasis on things I want to play with and teach my son about rather than mint condition or ultra rare machines. If anyone here has anything that fits the bill for sale I'm interested in hearing from you.

Hi Fireman,

You've chosen a bad time to start looking for Apple II equipment - we've been seeing early Apple's selling for multiple thousands overseas recently. Hopefully this will settle down and you'll be able to find what you want at a reasonable price soon :) If getting the earlier models is not a concern for you then you should be able to find an Apple IIe at reasonable price - I got a IIe Platinum with monitor recently for under $100. You can post on the Wanted board here, and keep an eye on TradeMe and Sella.

I'm pleased to hear that you're after something working and usable rather than mint and "collectable"; that's always been what I've looked for as well, though I've tended to grad a nice example when I see one at the right price.

Welcome to the forums :)

Welcome Fireman at least you have plenty of choice with the 6502 and Z80 cpu as a base if Apple are out due to price there plenty of C=64 and amiga stuff out there mainly it seems to be from the S.I. have not seen many A8's or ST's but plenty of Sinclair stuff , and not all Apple MAC stuff is crazy proces yet, but the whole retro Computer scene seems to be starting to take off price wise so probably a good time to get in before they all go out of this world price wise

Welcome the forums!

Apple gear is discussed here quite a lot and the odd Apple IIe appears on Trade Me from time to time. Don't forget you can subscribe to each Forum and hence get an email everytime someone posts.

Enjoy!
