Some interesting comments in the Q&A. I would tend to think that the missing ingredient is the event and occasion to give it significance to more people. The computer by itself is not worth a lot, and the signatures themselves I'm sure will have some presidents for market value, but it's still somewhat tantamount to a personalised autograph. It's a fascinating story that would be great in a NZ museum.

Don't do it too often (think I've said before) but a simple search of "apple II" from the root 'Computers' category will net you most of the apple collectibles that are ever likely to show up for auction.

Yeah, I missed that one. I think the comments in the auction were a bit harsh - I personally wouldnt pay $7,500 however (by am not personally offended by the sellers asking price). Nod's view that his "signed" GS's must be worth a lot more based on the start price of the signed IIe is also "misleading" as if he is a keen vintage Apple collector as he claims, he would know that the "Woz" GS's were screen printed as part of a commerical run, whilst this IIe was actually personally signed - and by both Steve and Andy.

I wasnt part of it, but I know that Woz came to NZ (Wellington) back in the day to visit the Wellington Apple User Group (who as I understand it invited him and to thier surpirse he accepted - I think this is the "first" visit the seller is referring to).

Yes, surely he must have been poking at the seller with that comment, which of course wasn't entirely necessary.

You know, I count only four or five bigger Apple collector's on trademe and I wonder with all the Apple love out there, and perhaps former Apple workers, why it's not a more booming trade on the boards on trademe. I see a lot of Power Macs go to scrap and would save them if I thought anyone wanted them, but there's basically little value and demand from the Macintosh upwards. I concede they're fairly common though, but then it's that attitude that has also made all the rare computers rare.

I'd expect Apple themselves in NZ to stump up and buy the signed Apple IIe for their (if they have one) vintage computer vault or some display. It's not as if they're short on cash nowadays.

I have an original Apple II serial number 999 that was upgraded by Woz in about 1981 to an Apple II+. When he upgraded it he also signed the case 'To Mark, make your work fun Woz' and hand wrote a '+' sign on the case next to the Apple II label. So the motherboard is from an apple II+, the PSU and keyboard are not original either (keyboard looks like it's from a Bell and Howell II+). But the case is number 999.
...so I wonder how much this would be worth???

I also have another original II with original Rev0 board. The serial number is 5394. I won't be giving up this computer unless I become bankrupt. You can see pictures of it here:

Yes, I was certainly very lucky to find it and recognize it for what it was. It's one of the prides of my collection, and something I'll keep for a while.
