There is a slim chance that we may have finished moving the branch in time for me to attend, so if possible I will be there.

Most of you know what gear the others have. Anyone got a burning desired to see anything in the flesh (within transportable limits)? I could lug a Kaypro II or Osborne 1 down if anyone's interested?

In your last video you made it pretty clear which one you'd love to take ;)
So you should definately do that!

I'm still trying to think of something portable - my oldest portable unit is only 386 territory though.

I'd love to see the Kaypro II in the flesh. Haven't seen one for decades :)

I'm sorry folks, I'm still at the fingers crossed stage: it's 50/50 if my car will be reassembled in time!

*of course* the wife has buggered off with the other car...

Sorry you couldn't make it Mike.

For those that weren't there, Andrew (lizardboy)+son, Jono (SpidersWeb)+partner and I had a great 2.5+ hours sharing stories and generally geeking-out over a wide range of topics. I now have a better appreciation of the Cambridge Z88 thanks to Andrew's show-and-tell. This is a machine I had heard of but knew very little about. Quite an advanced computer for 1988. Jono bought along some hefty and impressive manuals belonging to one of his vintage IBM servers. I showed off the Kaypro II

Mike even Skyped in via Andrew's phone but the noise in the cafe and fluctuating bandwidth made communication impossible. You don't need to worry about the car next time Mike because we held a vote and it was unanimous that the next meeting would be at your place :)

Here is a pic. From left to right, Jono, Me, Andrew and Fergus

Bit of a bugger I wasn't able to make it; hoped to sound you guys out on my plans. Now that's I've settled down somewhere for keeps (touch wood!) I want to put the Corestore on a more formal basis; register as a charitable trust, get some premises or workshop space, and open up shop as a computer museum / maker/workshop space for any computer preservationists who want to use it.

Next time my place, for sure! When is next time likely to be?!

Terry shows off his Kaypro II while Fearghus looks on:

Fearghus has a go with WordStar, but can't remember the control sequences ;)

SpidersWeb and Terry look through Spider's IBM PC RT manuals:

Oh PC RT; that's something you don't hear about often. I have three or four of those I think - in pretty ropy shape thought... let me see... yes! (Image may be too big; right-click and open image in new window :)

But no software or doc, we should talk :)

These sound like good (and big!) plans.

We have been having these informal cafe meetings of interested people in the Southern North Island on an irregular basis about once a year or so. I think this is the third one? However, there is nothing to stop any of us getting together organised by whoever, whenever and for whatever reason. I'd certainly make a trip to Wellington to see some big iron on show.

Mike, feel free to elaborate on the plans in the forum here, if you think they are ready for that. You should get plenty of feedback.

Mike, I do have the originals and they work but I also found this: http://electrickery.xs4all.nl/comp/ibm6150/diskimages/
"BASE SYSTEM PROGRAM" is the main installer for AIX, then you add VRM etc and the other features.
Only files I can add to that is I have two sets of the three disk Diagnostics sets.

Let me know when you get around to it, and I'll give you a hand.

I've learnt a huge amount since I picked it up on Saturday.

Good luck with the setup, keep us updated :)

Oh useful spider, thanks!

Do you actually have an RT to go with the docs and disks then?

EDIT found your post; seems you got a good collection :)

One gotcha; at least on mine, the keyboard and mouse connectors are *weird* - not AT style at all, something unique... fortunately I have a keyboard!
