Yeah that's a bit silly, but god loves a tryer. He's about to find out that not everything rare is sought after.

I've asked a (fairly obnoxious) question and there's another unanswered as well. :)
gibsaw wrote:Q. Yeah, $7.5k for a canadian me-too z80 box won't fly. It's not a low-serial Altair. :) There was one of these listed a couple of weeks ago together with a DSE system 80. (TM567608180) dsakey (184 ) 1:02 pm, Sat 16 Mar

He's making a mistake if he's basing his price on recent "ronturner vs berendsen" sales. The recent sale of one of these with a system 80 for $550 is a better gauge.

That was possibly more polite that my question:
Q: Really? It was only a few hundred dollars yesterday!!! yetiseti (918 ) 8:20 am, Sat 16 Mar

It started out something like $399 with a $500 buy now. Given the other auction that I lost to ronturner went for $550, and that was a fair haul of System 80 rarities I proportioned less in value to the Pied Piper, which I wanted really just because of the name.

The spiritual-eco-hippie-warrior-geek in me would like to think the universe in its abundance and synchronicity produced/manifested another Piped Piper computer for the market. It's funny how often it is when a computer comes up for sale, another or even cluster of the same computer comes up for sale. I've seen it so often with Amstrads, Segas, Amiga 1200s and pretty much anything else of reasonable rarity.

In this case, I think it's just a seller who has seen one computer up for sale, googled it, found out how rare it really is (but as mentioned rarity doesn't equate with $$$ all the time) and has played the opportunity card. I get a little tired of that. I've just been offered my childhood Amstrad back for $500 from the old family friends from years ago we sold it to (*sob* I had lots of games for it). This is a guy who literally lives around the corner from my mother and has just done some work for her which includes a $40 home visit as part of the bill.

I concur. When I first saw this listing (first thing this morning), it was as YetiSeti says. Talk about hyper-inflation!

They are not common, but as was said, rarity does not automatically equal a high market price. I don't expect it to move.

I assume you're using the word "friend" very loosely, here?

Wow now up to $12.5K or $15K Buy now. They really do not want to sell it do they.

I have asked a legitimate question just to see if they answer. Also because I was wondering if the disc's are mouldy :?

Hi, You mention that it comes with software disc's. Just wondering if you have managed to boot from any of them? Thanks acsi (849 ) 9:28 pm, Thu 21 Mar

It's hard to figure out this one. The asking price just keeps climbing. I think you are right asci. They have changed their mind and don't want to sell it!

I see this on eBay sometimes. Similar thing; the initial price is unrealistically high and with each subsequent listing it just gets higher. Very odd.

I see it closed without a bid. Didn't even answer my question! Hi Gavin/huygens if you're following along at home :)

EDIT: Yes, I know. I couldn't help myself. Sorry ;)

Back again. Shame is that if it had come back at a half decent price I was going to try and grab it. But at $19K I think I could buy a new car instead.
