VIC20/C64 Video Cable

Postby SpidersWeb on Wed Mar 13, 2013 2:16 pm

I wondered if you guys had one laying around for which I could exchange currency?

5 pin DIN -> RCA

My soldering iron hasn't arrived my China yet (my Saike iron got crushed in the move) so I can't make my own.

If you have time that would be great, just let me know the costs?
I was just going to splice a keyboard cable and RCA leads together.

If you still have a spare LC motherboard available I can buy that as well. I have beeps and a boop, but still no bong.

I see Jaycar to the 8 pin DIN connectors :) although it looks like a 5 pin will do - so if you know anyone with DIN-RCA cables from 70's stereo gear you'll be able to just use one of those!

Five-pin is the story anyway, that way the cable will work on the VIC20 as well as the C64.

Yeah needs to be 5 pin, the video cable from my C64C doesn't fit. I can get (and actually can find at home) the bits, but need to sort out my soldering situation - I may need to order another iron, it's been a while.

Thanks Carcenomy - let me know :D

Cable's all built, I'll test it tonight. My only concern is VIC20 compatibility, I can't test that since mine is on the fritz and I haven't had time to investigate.

Awesome! Thanks a lot for that :) If it works on a C64 it should be fine on the VIC.

You don't have a 41464 chip lying around by any chance (4bitx64K)? I ordered some off ebay, they arrived, then I moved house - sigh.
The 64C had random characters ages ago and then started working, it then got it's new keyboard and I plugged it in last weekend to find a black screen of death - further investigation lead me to a very hot RAM chip!

I have 41256, 414256, 4164 etc but can't find my 41464's (unless I sacrifice a working ISA video card that is). I can always order more, just being impatient.

Carc - send me a PM with some costs :) don't worry about testing if you're busy

In other news, it turns out my replacement Saike soldering iron has been sitting at the post office since the 8th of March - I just never got the Card to Call - arghhhh.

Tested the cable on Friday, works absolutely brilliant. I'll get it bundled up and ready to go out this week.
