Is my SX64 Vic working right?

Postby matsondawson on Sun Sep 19, 2010 3:01 pm

Can someone with an SX64 run the game barbarian and tell me whether the backgrounds are all blocky with the incorrect colours?

Don't worry. 5 x 6581's and 2x6569's later I finally have everything working normally.
C64's seem to be the most broken computers in my collection!

It's very easy to zap the ICs with static electricity by touching the joystick ports with your figures. I'd almost call it a design fault in the C64.

Add another 4 x 6526's to that total, I noticed a subtle problem with the joystick depending on which method was being used to read the c64 joy ports. Took me forever to sort out, especially since other problems cropped up whilst I was fixing it e.g. keyboard wire disconnect and drive head getting stuck (reading through the repair faq, no-one mentioned trying to move the head manually to 0 sector, they all advised replacing ic's)
