The Home Computer Series Magazines

Postby manuka on Fri Jun 14, 2013 9:05 am

Hi all, I have a complete set of The Home Computer Series Magazines which was published in the UK in 1983-84ish. I don't want to get rid of them as they are just too interesting, I was wondering if there would be much interest if I scanned them to pdf or OCR'd them to HTML and made them available on the 'net. Of course there is the possibility that they are already in circulation in this sort of format so I needn't bother, but just wanted to gauge interest before letting myself in for tens of hours of extra work.

I'm not familiar with the magazine and don't know if digital copies already exist, but I support this kind of activity. Once digitised the content can be saved forever and (potentially) all those articles and advertisements are preserved for all time.

I'd be keen to get PDFs to host/read.

I found a version at http://archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3Ahomecomputermagazine&sort=-publicdate with the same name - not sure if that's the one or not - it looks to be from the US.

If you do upload stuff I recommend using the Internet Archive. Stuff that goes up there is never deleted, even if it's targeted by a copyright claim, so it's safe no matter what.

Thanks for that, I hadn't thought of using them. Will upload pdf's there. I would be keen on doing a static webpages with them, just because I find pdf's not the easiest to navigate. It is quite a bit of work but it's something I've done before for a couple of other magazines.

Scanning magazines is going to be a LOT of work, but I'd say go for it as there's nothing more satisfying then seeing all that history archived safely away. 8)

I was tempted to do one or two sets from my collection here, but there's a few people on eBay that sell complete sets of scanned magazines on DVD, as well as tape inlays, disk labels, manuals, etc. Kinda nice to know there's plenty of stuff out there... However nothing beats having the physical products :D

I did a quick check online for your magazine - however the only place I found anything online with a similiar name is the internet Archive (as milkshakebot mentioned) here...

Another archive I've found useful, albeit US publications.
