Help wanted! - Old ETI Computer book

Postby Sleepwalker3 on Mon Sep 16, 2013 11:38 pm

Hi Guys, I'm new around this forum (Thanks Terry), so hi to all from over here in Aus.

Back around the late 80's, ETI mag was doing various articles on computer test gear and whatnot for Microprocessor stuff. At one stage, I think around 1989 or so, a book was brought out that was called something like "Repairing Microcomputer systems" and from memory I believe it was written by a Kiwi, Graeme Teesdale - of course it was a long time ago, so I may be wrong with these details. The book had numerous clever test circuits and helpful ideas for working with micros of the day. I've long since misplaced my copy, so went searching the libraries, the net, ebay, etc. all to no avail. I've contacted a couple of Kiwis by that name, but as yet haven't managed to get hold of the right one. In case it sparks some memories, I think the cover had the author with a frustrated look on his face ready to smash the insides of a PC.

I'm hoping that perhaps some of the crowd here might be able to help me out with some info about it, an exact title, confirm the author, an ISBN or even better, maybe even somebody has a copy of it. I'd appreciate any info at all about it.

Thanks :)

I have that look on my face often. :)

I don't know the book, but hopefully someone on here will have some information.

LOL, Yep, I think most of us have that face at one time or another. I've heard of a poker face, maybe this is a 'frustrated micro face'? The circuits and tips in that book would be of interest to many around here I think, as most of it was aimed at the classic computer era. It was in a magazine type physical format and about as thick as a magazine, basically the same as most of Electronics Today International's (ETI) other books.

Actually, others here may find the ETI story interesting if they are not familiar with it. Wikipedia has an article on it, with some stuff on their vintage computers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronics_Today_International
Silicon Chip did a story in the April 2011 issue, about the rise and fall of ETI which was very interesting. Unfortunately you can only read part of the article on-line unless you pay. http://archive.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_112407/article.html

Well I've finally found it! Turned out SiliconChip mag had one last copy (they now own the rights to EA and ETI stuff). It's called "Microprocessor Troubleshooting" and is by Graeme Teesdale, so I was fairly close.
