Recent acquisitions. A donation from Wellington

Postby tezza on Mon Sep 13, 2010 1:09 pm

Hi,

I had a bit of good fortune recently. See
http://www.classic-computers.org.nz/blo ... n-haul.htm

I won't be keeping all of this lot, so as I work through them (gradually) you might be seeing a few making an appearence on Trade Me.

Yea, there are some nice items there. My wife is not too impressed that my collection has spilt over from the designated computer shack to the garage proper though :)

Andrew, what is a ODP?

That's a typo :). A One-Per-Desk, on the other hand, was the original ICL branding for the ComputerPhone. I have two in parts awaiting restoration, but I suspect they're both beyond help.

I had a few of those years ago when I was a kid (all in nice working conditiion) - my uncle worked at Telecom and they binned a whole lot of them (so he rescued them for me) - I'm not sure what happned to the ones I had in the end - I suspect my Mum chucked them out when I wasnt looking!

Yea, mothers do that :)

I've got lots of projects on at the moment so I probably won't get around to look at the computerphone for a while. Like most computer gear that's been lying around unused for decades it's unlikely to work without some attention. In doing some research yesterday I did read they normally contain a lithium battery in which case I'd better get in there and check. Those things leak. Hopefully it's been removed or if not is at least still intact.

The results of a battery leak are not pretty! I would have an Apple IIGS if it was not for this

Whoo hoo! The guys who donated the Computerphone just found the manuals and sent them to me! They are in great condition.

Having the manuals, I'm now thinking I might try to restore the beast and add it to the permanent collection.

I still haven't got around to working through this Wellington stuff. I'm still working my way through the System 80 haul repairing as I go. The expansion units had a lot wrong with then but I'm getting there. Just a controller issue on one to fix now (however, it's a tricky issue and it's driving me NUTS! :) ).
