I had a problem trying to transfer some files on my old CPC 6128 and the "write protected error" was a real problem. Luckily your post "Amstrad CPC6128 - Acquisition, drive repair and software stockup" really saved the day. Thanks for the description and the pictures - the right nail and some pliers fixed the problem!

Appreciate this a lot! Found it quite worthwhile for an electrical and computer engineering history module :)

Hello,

I enjoyed reading about your PET situation...and indeed, share your fear of lifting traces when de-soldering...but have had pretty good success in removing chips and sockets, but indeed, things happen...I am currently working on getting my PET collection up and running...there are 39 of them...and I have started with the oldest of the old...and it is going pretty well, but some of them are indeed frustrating and yes, sockets do fail...they absolutely do...so always be aware that the chips might be just dandy but the holder might have a broken pin in there...much the same as a cold solder joint...

Hi Tezza,
It's been awhile since I visited. When your site popped up on a commodore search, I thought I'd stay for a bit. Just signing in again to update my info, and to say Hello.

Hello!!

Take care,
Simon

Started with an inherited System 80 mk 1 with cassette and also later had a Blue Label which was heavily mod'ed with CP/M, 64K RAM, home made Expansion unit with Percom Doubler, and a mix of 720k and 360K FDD's as well as a bunch other mods. Fantastic system for learning computers right from the start.

Love the Site and the stroll down memory lane. Thanks!!

Stumbled upon your collection and it amazes me that the newest one in it is actually my age! Lol! Love your little museum.

I have read a Wikipedia article on the Poly-1 and its use in Rotorua Boys High School where I was a teacher, and was seconded by Progeni Systems to develop software for NZ schools, with Professor John Tiffin as Supervisor, and when Perce Harpham was in his heyday. There is a citation to a Bits & Bytes article ‘Polys at Rotorua BHS’ that says August 1981, yet, according to this site, the magazine did not appear till 1982. Can you please check for the right edition date, and provide a link so someone can update the Wikipedia page?

Hello, I attended Waiopehu college from 1983-1987. Rory Butler was my computer teacher. We used to save our programs to casette tape mostly, but I do remember one machine that has a floppy disk. Mr Butler was the best I would love to catch up with him to say thank you.

I've noticed you don't post to YouTube anymore. I do appreciate you're collection of videos. They are some of the most interesting I've seen on YouTube of classic retro computers. Thanks for sharing them :)

G'day Tezza,

Wow, what a great site this is.

I worked at Tandy's Sydney office way back when servicing the TRS-80 range. I fixed the first faulty Model 2 and Model 3 that came thru the workshop.

Great memories. I hope to replay some of those great old games.

Thanks again,

Mike H

I still love this stuff after all these years. I worked in the TRS-80 Model 4 computer assembly plant in San Antonio. Man, those were fun times!

Thanks for the Cassette CAS information. I have found that my System 80 will not load computer audio CAS files. The problem is caused by there not being a long enough delay after the Sync Byte A5 and the start of the three D3 bytes. Found this out by using an Arduino program to simulate CAS audio input to the System 80. Guess System 80's are not as fast as Tandy TRS-80's.

We have two vintage Osborne computers (plus manual) bought in the UK around 1983. If anyone is interested to have these please email me. Otherwise they will be going to computer graveyard as we clear out our house.

My first computer was a 4k TRS-80 CoCo, bought in 1982. Was a regular haunter of the local Radio Shack back in the Compuserve, Tymnet, and Telenet days. Thanks for all the preservation work you do. Hope to see some new YouTube videos soon!
