A box or two were bought by KiwiCon last year, and I know they had some left over. I'll see if I can get a couple for you.

You can sometimes buy them new old stock off eBay at ~$50 USD for a box of 10.

I've checked with my, um, *cough* supplier and can hook you up. I'll let you know when I've got hold of them.

Right. I've got a couple of 8" hard sectored disks sitting right here. PM with your details and I'll send them to you. I'm tempted to keep the box though :)

The most common machines I recall that fit the description (S100 and 8 inch drives) are the ones made by MDL in the early 80's. Is that what you have?

Sorry I am not sure I understand your reply. S100 machines were not very common in New Zealand and the most common I saw with 8" drives were assembled by Microprocessor Developments in Auckland. If you have something different that is cool too. Just interested.

Reading your reply again maybe I do understand and you are surprised with my guess re the manufacturer. My father had a number of MDL S-100 based systems at his work in the early 80's that ran CP/M 2.2 so I have seen a few although not really used them to any extent. If you look back in the History forum there is a previous thread re MDL <http://classic-computers.org.nz/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9>

Unless you have something that will let you write 8" disks you may be better to try using a 1.2mb 5.25" drive (ex an AT type machine). If you can get that to boot then you can copy the OS over to an 8". There is some interesting reading on that at <http://www.retrotechnology.com/herbs_stuff/drive.html#threefive>.

Have you been able to locate a version of CP/M with a BIOS for the California Computer Systems boards?

Regards

Andrew
