ZX bulk games - who remembers them at the service stations?

Nice bulk lot of Spectrum tapes that I wouldn't mind a few of, but I can't buy the lot just for a few. And I find it hard enough to sell things that are not related the computer collection and wouldn't want to set a precedent so I won't be bidding.

But on subject, I remember how much fun it made going into the service stations as a child when they had those stands with all the $9.99 Firebird and Mastertronic budget games for sale. I think it has taken till only recently to see some distributor putting display boxes in all kinds of places like the post shops/books shops etc with a newer range of PC budget software and educational titles. But it just doesn't feel the same, and looks cheap.

One of those original stands would be cool for a display for an auction lot like this. I bet if someone were to ask around at garages, someone somewhere would have them dusted away out in storage.

No, I don't remember these at service stations? Were they really sold that way? I guess I might not have taken much notice.

I was in my 20s by the time the 1980s rolled around and although I did have an interest in games (especially adventure games) when I first got my System 80, that waned to be replcaed with more serious applications like wordprocessing, communications. database work, communications and coding. I really enjoyed coding. Maybe I should have become a programmer but I think If I'd done it as a profession it many not have been as interesting.
