Not sure if anyone saw this seeing as it's filed under 'CRT monitors' for some reason. 17 hours to go. Someone save this from the "just junk the rest and send me the keyboard" guy in the comments.

Goodness. Yes I did read that some PS/2 486 machines came in a Model 70 case. This might be one of them.

No room at my place now for such a beast but it is kind of collectible. I hope someone within driving distance can save it from an ignominious fate.

I have a 386 PS/2 in that case style too. PS/2 56SX.

I see we have a keyboard hunter, but I'm hoping to jump in. Thanks for the link, I'll drive to Levin for that because I quite want the accessories as well as the machine. Although that keyboard will drive prices up :(

Edit: actually that's identical to my 56SX (visually)

Edit 2: As for space, I have a Turbo XT on my dining room table, while my partner enjoyed playing Prince of Persia while cooking, I really need to arrange something better. p.s. it looks AWESOME in the Magnum PC case, would be perfect for a 1980's retro film, especially if it involved Ferrari's and mustaches.

Keyboard guy bailed at twenty bucks (I had a $100 autobid on there).

Keyboard alone can cost 100-150, and that is why I don't have a PS/2 Model M keyboard at the moment.
So I'm very happy with that. Thanks xjas for posting this link.

Nice job scoring it. :) Glad my relentless Trademe monitoring (even for stuff I don't want myself) paid off.

Damn, forgot that was ending.

This is the one to get.

IBM PS/2 Model 76. Much written about this being the 'best' 32bit PS/2.

Should have SCSI controller for about a 500MB HDD, can be RAMmed up to 32MB, very capable when you have it loaded. If it does not already have the 486dx2 50 it's a simple swap - but not in a ZIF socket so dismantle it completely to get plenty of workspace to lever out the old CPU.

Congratulations. I had one, but a few years back, sold it in a fit of stupidity keeping a Model 30, now I find myself thinking the big brother example should have been kept instead. I should have been more diligent.

Cheers.

btw unless by miracle, my Model 30-286 starts working, I would swap this or my Model 56 386 version (MCA + SCSI port + PCnic II network card + new CMOS battery) for a Model 30-286 that works.
My 30-286 is a non-starter, and it appears it'll be time consuming and potentially expensive to repair - and I could still end up with a dead machine at the end of the day (plus it looks pretty nasty)

If I can't do a swapsie, I'll likely leave this machine as-is, but move my MCA network card in to it and install OS/2 2.2.
I currently have OS/2 2.2 (needed by the network card) on the 56 but the poor thing is a bit too slow for it - needs DOS and Windows 3.1 back on it.

Also the trademe seller is very friendly, nice guy, and fast responses. Was happy to see it go to a collector.
I'm also keen to try out that DeskJet - looks like a 500 series?

Yip definately a 500 series alright. I've got a couple of the later 540s and 400s out in the shed. Personally I just avoid MCA stuff altogether.

I'd be interesting comparing a similarly specced VBL clone with it.

That's one nice thing with the Model 30-286, ISA slots. But you still have all the proprietary business going on and the lack of space internally.

I've got a DeskWriter - but can't remember the model - it's been a while since I looked at it - and I don't have a Mac to plug it in to :(

Collected. Besides the yellowing on the monitor, this gear is in mint condition.
The Model M keyboard looks/feels new too. All cables included.

Printer was an HP DeskJet Plus.
Machine was a Model 76S with a 486DX2 CPU (so either 50 or 66Mhz) and has MCA SCSI and MCA network adaptors installed.

Owner also sold me a Pentium MMX laptop - I have a few of these but this one was prestine and included the original bag in as-new condition.

So very happy with that.
Nice guy. Worth the trip.

Need to plug it in and test, but I need to finish another project to make room, it's getting tight in here.

The usual early 90's shareware stuff mainly-Monster Bash, Duke Nukem, Lemmings, Word Rescue, Maths Rescue, Cosmo, Jetpack, Crystal Caves, Electroman, Rescue Rover, Paganitzu, Rockford etc etc....

Some others are(commercial)-Museum Madness, KGB, Eye of the Beholder, Blake Stone, Civilistion, Ancient Empires, Push Over, Hurl, Hexx, Colonization, Sim City 2000, a few Flight Sims-Harrier Jump Jet is one, Grand Prix and I forget what else I've got.

Should set one of the 486s up as a Dos-Windows/Wfw 3.home office/games machine. I have a couple of parrallel port scanners out in the garage and could hook one of the DJs to Lpt2 instead of daisy chaining it the scanner.
