Speaking of "Pick up Only" Auctions.

I've just purchased this XT. Any other suggestions for getting this to Auckland, before I commission someone like "Pack and Send"?

Oh thank god it was someone on here.

I was worried it'd end up with someone who gave up on it when replacing the power supply didn't work (I'd bet my hat that the PSU is fine).
Sorry can't help with postage :( Just make sure the CRT is packed well, I've had great luck getting them sent but the back plastic can be fragile if the courier had a few too many at lunch.

I have a spare PSU, but what I've been reading points to a reasonably high likelihood of failure amongst three input capacitors next to the power input on the board, rather than the PSU itself. :D

However, I'll stick to the topic... Anyone else? Comments? Suggestions? Before I make arrangements.

I've had a large and heavy 1960's power amp, preamp and tuner sent from Wellington to Auckland for around $50-60.

Full of vaccum tubes, and everything was perfect when it arrived back. Boxed the parts, wrapped the boxes in bubble wrap, and then boxed that.

This was through NZ post. Hopefully this helps!

Clym, did NZ post do the pack for you? I've just found out that "Pack and Send" don't have a Palmy office, so unless it's already packed they can't do it.

Sorry for the late reply! I boxed it myself.

Oh, I see... you're the sender. No. I don't have it yet, and while the seller seems reasonably amenable to boxing it up, he's taking his time.

I guess patience is a virtue.

Fingers crossed. The worry is always if the seller ends up "can't be bothered".
Let us know how you get on.

Anyway my guess on what you won there - 1986/1987 enhanced XT (640KB/20MB), which would've shipped (as far as I knew) with one or two half height floppy but someone has switched it in with a full height from an older XT. Just a guess though - keen to see if I'm right or not :P

My bet would be an old stock (at the time), early XT with an upgraded hard disk to get it to sell. This is NZ, after all. The Land of dumping old stock. :D

Not that it matters. I haven't really seen much serial number scrutiny of the IBM PC/XT in the way that surrounds early Apple II's, and even if there was, the XT is the II+ of the line. By that point, no-one is too worried about what serial or year it was. :D
