I'm not sure if right now is a good time to sell right now though? I've got a few to sell of my own, but right now the Xmas bills are coming in for a lot of people and there may not be a lot of spare cash around. I'll wait for a month or so I think.

I'm waiting to see what the Osborne goes for. I have a spare one of these myself.

I think was a bit keen starting at $1000 for the Osbourne. Even $499 is a bit steep - I'm picking it would no higher than $250 if it ever starts for less than that. Should we start a book?

Yes, around the $200-$250 mark would be what I'd expected from past sales. They certainly have historical worth. If the seller can get more, all power to them. It makes our stuff more valuable. AND..you never know. I would never thought I'd see an Apple IIGS got for around $1000 or some of the Apple IIes go for the (crazy) prices they do. Or (at the other end of the scale) BBCs go for astonishingly cheap prices on occasions. They are classic machines and quite capable for their time.

In the free market, you never know. If two or more people want it and there is "emotional value" (a perfectly valid factor IMO..otherwise I wouldn't have half of what I do!..lol) who knows what things might go for!

I am truly astonished at the prices Apple gear has been selling for lately. Did you see the boxed IIc that went for $5000 USD recently?

Yes, I think the BBCs were one of the best 8bits in many ways. They had by far the best 8 bit BASIC implementation, and the Master 512 was probably the most powerful 8 bit system ever built.

crazy price. But it doesn't help when someone perhaps only has used a single ebay price to guide them, and they pick one of the crazy-quadruple-the-price type traders rather than researching current market bids and previous sale info. Those opportune ebay sellers I reckon prey on people still using these machines in production and needing one when they break down.

However, if you're doing a book, I'm prepared to wager $499 that someone might bid that much on the auction if you're keen? I wouldn't say no to another Osborne in the collection ...
