Good grief! $205 for two untested breadbin C64s and peripherals:

I didn't bid because I thought the $60 start was too high!

Yes. I guess if you found one of these in the attic and you hadn't studied the prices the've gone for over the years go for you might think they could go for that. I can't see too many bids going on it myself, but I have been astonished in the past (Near a grand for an Apple IIGS for example).

$205 was the winning bid. Colour me surprised.

I was bidding on that single C64 that's still on there, was going for 45 which felt steep to me as it was... and got outbid. It looks like a seriously early model, so we'll see how that goes.

The 8 pin AV socket identifies it as a later model board, which I imagine is why v_i_n_n_y is asking.

Anyway, good luck with it. They're not going as high as Apple gear, but bread bin prices are definitely inflated recently.

It's already miles out of my price range. It's the badging that has me confused - doesn't look like any breadbin I've seen. I'm suspecting a replacement board.

True that.

These old serial numbered silver label C64s are fetching serious (silly?) money overseas now. I was reading a thread about them a week or two ago when looking up something else where they were discussing prices, serial numbers etc, but I can't find it now. It seems to be a fairly hot topic.

I have a silver label one of some variety but it's buried beneath too many boxes to check the serial number. A corner section of the room might collapse if I tried to pull the box out.

This link is interesting if you're wanting to learn about rare Commodore hardware you've never heard of.

Interesting. I guess those early ones were made in fewer numbers but I would imagine quite a few would still be around. How easy is it to substitute early for later boards? If it is easy, this whole "early model" thing becomes a bit of a joke.

I can't confirm Tezza, but last time I looked at a C64, the C64C boards are bolt-for-bolt compatible with the early Breadbin boards. So yes, you could put the surface-mount modern C64C board into the earlier breadbin case. So yes, early serials are over-rated. I'd just not seen a silver label C64 before :)

I really should just get the appropriate tools and have a go at the C64s I have, would save bidding on these unknown quantity models on Trade Me... if not, YetiSeti, gimme a yell if you don't get killed by a corner of your room filled with gear finding that silver label. I could be interested. You have my details.
