Some on a C= site over in the states thinks it a fair price for a C64 nib what ever that is, would seem very few ever made it to the States, so if its NTSC its far from common, but if a PAL brought in from EU then not so.

NIB just stands for
New In Box. I wonder if any of those people saying it's a fair price will actually stump up and pay it. I'd guess up to $250 - $300 USD tops, and I'd personally be willinbg to pay up to $150 USD in that condition if shipping weren't an issue.

NIB computers are commodity investments really. Like stamps. As they are rarer than Not-NIB units, they inherently have more value.
There must be a grey line in the definition of NIB though. If you UNWRAP a NIB unit to photograph it (like the e-bay seller did), can you really claim it's still NIB? On the other hand if you don't open the box up, how do you know the computer is actually in there? If you switch it on to test it, is it still NIB? Does testing it actually DEVALUE it because someone has had their grubby mitts on it. Are all NIB computers also untested? Would they actually work and do the NIB buyers/investors care anyway? Maybe not?
Having no interest in the investment side of vintage computing, I don't know the answer to these questions...I'm just throwing them out there.

Very good questions really. I know if I paid megabucks for a C64 that was NIB, that sucker would be coming out of the box immediately for a test run - we all know how temperamental C64s are when they've been used and stored, then used and stored again... what are they gonna do when they've only ever been stored? Would doing so devalue it? Absolutely certain it would.
The problem is exactly as you said, people who want to use vintage computers as investments. We like using them too - not just putting them on a shelf never to be touched.
