He's right though, the screen on these is excellent if it's working like mine used to.
On my one the hard disc had a mechanical failure, and as it was less valued then and I didn't have ebay to prove it was worth something, it was unfortunately disposed of.

Edit: drowned my sorrows and bought a 486DX/2 for 30 bucks pickup, yey.

Although I think the trader is genuine, just you don't see enough of these drives on trademe to gauge accurate pricing.
Untested I'd have trouble going plus $10 + postage. $200 would likely get you two to four MFM drives landed.

But I did find something which is fairly priced (not bargin basement, but fair)
Atari 800XL boxed (all except floppy drive)

Although that drive does have history. IBM fitted them stock to the PC AT but it was probably one of CMI's biggest failures, causing them to lose their IBM contract very quickly. Downside is I'd wager that drive probably failed back in the 80's.

Damn, that's good enough for me, I have an 8MB FH MFM drive in a box here, must be worth a lot more than $200. I'm finally going to get rich ;o)
Worst part is I gave away the controller card to a friend with a lugable so he could fit a 20MB HH drive so I can't test mine either. Blast, now it'll have to be a dollar reserve.
OK, not worth the effort, I'll keep it as the paperweight it is.

I don't quite think he's totally aware of what it is though. In the Q/A section the response to interface type is SCSI, though in the picture of the circuit the exposed copper of the expected edge connector for an MFM style drive may just be visible under the metal frame. So it's likely that this initial listing is to test the water, you will likely be able to get him to bring the price down, or maybe even an offer at the end of it.

Yeah, being a nice bugger I posted up that it was MFM and explained it's importance in history and wished him well in the auction. Not sure if he's replied or not.
I really don't want it because I have MFM drives that definately work, but when I first clicked on the auction I thought it said $20 and got excited lol

If it works it might be worth $200 to the right person though given the drive that it is.

I'm currently being tempted by an ST225 that'll cost me $60 delivered, but have a local contact I'm going to go poke first.
Reminds me, need to find another 16 bit MFM controller, only have one and it throws controller errors. My 8 bit ones are BIOS + almost no options, in fact one has no options at all, its Type 2 for life.

Also see the Panasonic 150 on there.
It's actually from circa 1990 not 1980, but they're battery powered, not sure if hard disc or single 720K though

That unknown condition CMI drive went to Fixed Price Offer of $80 and sold within minutes.
Just got the email. I was hoping it'd get relisted for sub-$20, because I would've happily gambled that just to see if I could get it to LLF.

I should put my squeeky NEC up for $50!

My finger was itching to go for it, very nearly did but with four XL's some boxed and 3 XE's 2 of them boxed I did not wish to take the flack from the other half

I'm glad there aren't as many x86 machines as there are Amiga's on trademe right now.
