You don't see many 5170s appear these days.

Auckland, buyer pickup only :( :( :(

I've been trying to build a 5170 for ages, even have a working motherboard and spare cards/MFM drives allocated, but the case will cost near on 300 delivered from the US.

ugh, don't know anyone in Auckland

Thanks for the heads up though! I guess I could put the word out and see if any of my Auckland contacts would grab it, might be pushing my luck though, was lucky enough finding an old mate near Morrinsville to send the 5160's down.

Pending further conversation, looks like me and VIC may split it.
I already have three 5151 displays, and he wants one, so could work out quite well.

If you win it and want it collected I could do that , don't know how much it would cost to ship or who is the best to handle the monitor etc. North Shore is about 35 Ks from where I live and cost about $20 to get there and back ( the wife has been in NS hospital for the last few days so I have been going over once a day. she should be out on Saturday.)

Awesome of you to offer Welsh, much appreciated, but I've thankfully got this one sorted.

One hour to go.
Also noticed he's added a second 5170 when he found out the original was fake internally - good man!

Edit: also just got offered an IBM 5160 manual + discs, oh yeah, IBM season

Oh man I so thought you had that. Got a bit of a shock when I saw what it finally went for and given it's condition (non working, rusty etc).

Makes me think it might be time to make some more room in the cupboard.... That way I can fit all the stuff I have on the floor in

Yeah I guess it must've been really important for his collection. Hope it goes well. No doubt the dead PSU in the second unit is actually just a shorted cap on the motherboard - could be quite an easy fix - and that Fox II is an extremely quick 286 board and the manual is still available online. So a good grab.

For me I just needed the case, and vic wanted the screen, but beyond 530 it become uneconomical. I'll just have to wait for another, or swallow the US160 in shipping for a case + PSU. I have all the cards, motherboard, disk drives and spare MFM hard drives for it already.

In about a month I should be selling a 5160 tested and working, wondering what that will fetch.
