Mac Plus - Rifa X2 cap?

Postby arjoll on Thu Aug 09, 2012 9:35 pm

Just spotted this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/vint ... 577190.htm

Does the Mac Plus power supply use the dreaded epoxy-cased Rifa X2 caps by any chance? If so this could be a good deal for someone wanting one :)

I don't know but I have a feeling if I dare start up my Mac Plus it's gonna release the smoke too... so I would also like to know :)

Hmm, its been a while but I think its normally the electrolytics up in the flyback circuit that cause the bang and smoke effects. They are pretty easy to fix however, even when they have released all of their magic smoke in dramatic syle - normally nothing else gets damaged. There used to be a really good repair guide for the PSU's of the 128/512/plus era over on 68kmla.net.
