Looking forward to picking up my Commodore 1084S Colour Monitor on Saturday. At some stage I'll be putting together a video on the Amiga 500. I couldn't possible show it displayed on a normal TV now, could I!

The Amiga is one machine I have no drive to collect. I don't know why. Maybe it was the dorm rooms full of them at university with all the commodore nerds attacking me every day about my Macs. Yip, that'll be it.

:)

Maybe your video will inspire me and show me why it is worth collecting.

Well to me it's of historical significance so at least one Amiga model is certainly worth having. It represents a late 1980s alternative to Mac and PC/MS-DOS machines. Amigas did gain some traction in the home and other niche areas, even if it never really threatened those two mentioned.

It's got quite a bit of cultural significance - colour preemptive multitasking before everyone else! ;)

And no, an Amiga on a TV is awful, and the Amiga 500 would require the A520 TV Modulator to even do that without it being in monochrome. The 1084S however is the stereotypical good guy monitor that works with basically everything. For a long while my TV was a 1084S connected to a VCR and it looked fantastic compared to the 14" TVs at the time. Plus with the correct cables they worked with the Commodore PCs and 8-bits too.

I was lucky enough to find one cheaply as-new in box (its actually still in it's box right now because I haven't set up my Amiga yet). Good monitors. I also have a 1702 for the Commodore's but I haven't tested that yet :S

There is something unique about playing a game on an Amiga - especially paired with a 1084s - I don't know how to explain it but I get a bit of an 'arcade' feel which I don't seem to get from gaming on the PC. I'll be looking forward to the video and seeing how you explain the experience.

On the PC-alternative note, I bought another C64C yesterday, hopefully the third one works! Going to leave it setup in the lounge between the Xbox360 and PlayStation 3.
