Wang 286.386 Disks

Postby SpidersWeb on Thu May 09, 2013 7:59 pm

Sorry if it's in the wrong section, I wasn't sure.

I recently recovered (it took hours of finding the best drive and cleaning them continuously ) a set of Wang PC 200/300 series configuration disks. With the Wang PC selling on trademe, I thought it'd be a good idea to post it on here - because they must be around.

D1 - Setup (head park tool, options/config guide, configuration tools, low level formatter etc etc)
D2 - EMM (Expanded memory driver - useful if you have a Wang EMS board - even if you don't have a Wang PC)
D3 - PC Local Office Connection (for use with the LOC card - seems to let you emulate various terminals)
D4 - PC LOC stuff for Windows

Well, while I have no need for wang disks, it's reading sentences like this that remind me why I'm here. That someone took the care and time to spend hours with continuous cleaning (and the implied continuous partial dismantling.) to recover these.

It's important that we pay attention to software as well as resurrecting failed hardware. Well done.
"dsakey" on trademe. Apple II's are my thing.

Cheers. I must admit I do have fun doing things like that, feels like I've accomplished something.

I did make someone's day, got a private message soon after I announced it, he had been looking for over a year. Normally I'd just put them to one side and leave it for another day, but when I couldn't find it anywhere on the net.... had to be done.

The disks were shedding pretty bad, and the magnetic strength was weak (you could visually see the wear on them), which is why it took a while.

PC-240 is back on trademe, so I've put in my 'pretty please' postage question.
