Awesome write up as always. I've just ordered some 3" floppies, and have a spare monitor, so I guess that means I'm obligated to find a 6128 now I'm expecting I'll be going through all the same stuff with the belts etc, very useful information. I'm glad to see people still providing replacement parts - combine that with the available circuit diagrams, and how easy they are to work on, I suspect they'll be around for a very long time.

The disc's seem to be very good quality from my eperience with no mould on any that I have found.

It is unfortionate they did not take off for that very reason as both 3.5 and 5.25's seem to pale in comparison.

But then this seems to relate to the present situation where the cheaper the better.

One of the very reason's where old tech seems to be outlasting new or recent technology. How many old C64 or Atari 5.25's still work? compared to the 3" discs?

One set I got did suffer from the mould issue so they are not immune if stored anywhere the least bit damp. On the other hand, the sealed packet of 10 I bought are very clean and work just fine.
