Spectravideo SVI605 repair

well i opened up the 2 x 605 expanders i got from the " Falco "Auckland estate pickup. as with most of this gear it has been damp and the metal shields etc have rusted so i need to de-rust them.. and i'm having issues with the unit reading disks on and off.. even with good disks the read fine to start then don't.. i'm going to check and replace the caps in the psu as the large ones have that fishy smell so may just do them all.. also all the rocker switches are frozen solid so will replace them too. so here we go..

so the fdd''s just stopped working and the unit just boots to sv basic and not disc basic or cpm.. so need to take it apart and check out the psu and board..

now i have it all out i will deal to the rust in the case first..

these were done before i used the electrolysis's method on the 808 and 601.. and i used repco rust remover then clear coated the areas and the labels on the back.

i'm still in 2 minds if i should get some paint mixed to re-do the lid's or not... now need to replace the faulty switch

nice set of cards in this unit.. well re assembled the unit and the board was playing up so removed the main board after testing 2 other 328 pc's and was the same.. even tried some known working drives and still not happy..

so down the rabbit hole i went and removed all the logic chips to test them and also to put sockets in so i can test other 605's when i need to with faults..

so i need to order some ic's.. and some fdd controllers as well..

now to put the new ic's in but still need to wait for the fdd ic's to come... also need to get some bits for the psu as well
