The main thing I would suggest before taking your machine back is that you identify it properly. It may support what you need, but as acsi is suggesting, it'll be under 10.4

Been searching trademe for a while and it seems that everyone does a clean install before selling. Is it possible to re-install a computer with OS10.4?

found a mac on trademe which is ....... OS 10.4.11 this is the earliest I've spotted for a long time. Would that number make it 'Classic'?

Yes, it is... and "Tiger" is one of the widest compatibility versions.

Yes, That's "Tiger". The last version to support "Classic".

Right, Have purchased that machine and set it up. Mac OSX 10.4.11

Tried to run Encore on it but no luck.

I tried to update it to classic using a Mac OS9.2.1 update disc but the process came to a halt.

Computer came up with this excuse ...Classic cant find a Mac OS9 system folder on the startup disk to use
Any clues on what I can do now?

Hi Deigh,

I'm pretty sure you need a OS9.2 install disk rather than an upgrade disk.

Although it's still copyrighted I'm pretty sure you can find a downloadable version on the net. Otherwise I'd recommend Trademe or eBay.

That sounds reasonable. I'll start looking round the net, thanks. If you have an URL I can follow I'd appreciate it.
