I'm sure some of you have already news and announcements around this new gaming event that will be held at Vector Arena (Auckland) on the 28th / 29th September.

While the focus is primarily on modern gaming (the big draw cards are the new PS4 / Xbox 1 systems) there will be some content that may be of interest to folks here:

* Guest Speakers - Which includes Dr Melanie Swalwell (Play It Again) who will be speaking again on game history and preservation (with an NZ / Au focus) http://digitalnationz.com/speakers/

The organizers have already cast the net out contacting various people to be involved and I am likely to have some input / contribution to the Video Gaming Museum.
Once I have more information on this I'll post more here.

Ticket Prices seem ok ($14 a day pass for Adults) so it might be a good place for an informal forum get-together?

Personally I'm keen to also have some hands-on time with the Oculus Rift (which will be display) as I've always been a fan/collector of older VR / 3D tech.

Yup - I'll be there. Apparently our school has a stand, so it may be I'm there handing out brochures for most the day (if I volunteer that is)... We'll see - I'm keen on catching the Historical stuff...

Managed to snag a VIP ticket - very excited!

My collection will form the basis of the "Video Game Museum" on display at this event and I'll be onsite throughout keeping an eye on it, so please come up and introduce yourselves!
I'm currently going through the process of selecting and packing the gear for the exhibition.

It will be very console and games focused so please don't come expecting to see any really weird and wonderful computer equipment on display, Home PC wise I'm bringing just normal suspects ZX/Atari 8 bit, C64, Vic20 etc.
PC wise my sole system will be an Amstrad Mega PC (probably running old DOS games - have Links 386 Pro currently running on it for some old school digitized speech love)

However I've been told by the organisers that there will be another collection on display from another AK Collector (mbarlow - not sure if they are on here?) that focuses more on old PCs and related so really looking forward to seeing that.

The one thing this exercise has taught me so far is I need to invest now in getting more monitors/TVs for the collection if I want to have more systems hooked up for display.
And that you can never find a unquiet PSU/cable that you put somewhere "special".

Yes, that is something this is easily forgotten. If you want to show these machines working, you need this hardware too.

Yes I believe so, there is a "media only" day on the Friday and more and more coverage of the event is appearing in the news.
They announced yesterday that KimDotCom would be attending on the Sunday and taking on 100 people one on one at "Modern Warfare 3" for charity.

Surely you jest? With an Amstrad Mega PC you have to be showing off Sega Mega Drive games. Perhaps games that have both a PC and a Sega version for comparison. California Games, Mortal Kombat, etc etc etc The trick would be to find a game that was as good on the PC as the Mega Drive, although a contrast of how bad (some) PC versions were as well would be interesting to show off.

What school and stand are you running?

I just booked my flight tickets last night from Dunedin (although haven't pre-registered for anything or bought event tickets yet). I'm more keen to look around from an event structure and organisation perspective and hopefully get to talk to a few people involved and take some ideas away.

There's lots of info on the GP Forums site about the event. They are talking having an identifying badge for their members. We should have one too ...

The issue with running MegaDrive games is the monitor - I don't have the right one
The original MegaPC monitor was a multisync one and supported both VGA (PC side) and 15Khz (Megadrive) and both signals share the 15-pin VGA connector.
Sadly I never got the monitor with this unit and I've had no luck finding a multisync that works.

How many days are you up for?
If you want to help out on the Museum (they want people to be there an talk about the systems, keep them running etc.) just let me know and I'll sort out the tickets.

What school and stand are you running?

I work for "Yoobee School of Design". (Yes, strange name I know (once called "Natcoll") - Basically a film, animation and graphic design college). Apparently we're going to be housed at the Playtech stand, and also helping work a little at their stand as well. Hopefully I'll get some time to check the event out, and not end up spending 8+ hours standing about watching the punters wander around.
