Two Mac Plus Computers - Parts or Restore

Postby gavo on Mon Jun 07, 2010 6:45 pm

Hi All,

I have two faulty Mac Pluses minus keyboards and mice. They have been sitting under a house for at least the last 10 years, but are in OKish cosmetic condition. They are good for parts or restoration (I am tempted but just dont have the time or space at the moment). Both have mobo's but neither have RAM. The PSU in one is completely disconnected, I'm not sure what the history is on it - this one also has a corroded frame (one corner) which has affected the mobo in it - looks like it could be cleaned up, I dont think its battery spill. The other one I foolishly tried to power up, which resulted in a capacitor explosion (judging by the smell and smoke :) ). Both units have disk drive, PSU, mobo, tube, case. They are missing the odd case screw tho.

Also with this lot comes a faulty 128k Mac mobo - missing a voltage regulator by the looks of it, but otherwise complete - has a sticker on the CPU that says "crook" - no idea whats wrong with it, havent tried to power it up - good for parts or repair I would say.

Pickup Porirua

Price = zero. Trying to save them from the dump and get them to someone who cares :)

PM or post here if your interested.

Gavin,

If they don't move with the above post I'd also suggest putting them on TradeMe for $1, pick up only.

I'd be interested, but it might take me a month or two to pick up as I'm currently trying to buy a car (I'm in Wellington)

Nothing more fun than trying to get an old computer working.

Are you in the CBD or one of the city suburbs?

I might be coming into town next week sometime to watch the A-Team - if I do, I'll let you know before hand to see if we can arrange a drop.

Not that I'm sniffing for any at the moment (because where will they go?), but I hope to have enough one day to construct pyramid-like gallery exhibit, a bit like in the Q*Bert game. It looks good in my head anyway.
