WangPC, no keyboard or monitor

Wang PC, no keyboard or monitor.

It contains what appears to be a working Seagate ST-412 hard drive, floppy drive, CPU board with 256KB, monochrome monitor interface and an I/O card with a Z80A on it. It has proprietary keyboard and monitor plugs, so I can't tell you any more about it. Make an offer - pickup from Stokes Valley, Lower Hutt only as it weighs more than I do. Almost.

Haaaahahahahahahaha!

Call me juvenile, but every time I see or hear of a WANG PC, it makes me burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Sadly, you're not alone... I too chuckle slightly... "It looks like a giant wang" :)

Hmm.."Wang" never struck me as funny. It's actually a very common Chinese surname. In the early 1980's Wang Word Processors were very respected pieces of hardware. I never thought of it having any other interpretation. Depends of what words you associate with what I guess.

haha I almost put up a 'I'm playing with lizardb0y's huge wang' last night, but wasn't sure how many people would share my odd sense of humour.

Picked up the slang from the Penny Arcade cartoons around 2000/2001. Friend of mine was at a job interview around this time, and the interviewer found out he liked computers, so said he'd take him next door and show him his big Wang. Friend laughed so hard he got asked to leave, I doubt the interviewer even had any idea.

Cracks me up.

Cheers for the trade, still haven't had a look inside yet.
Found the keyboard online, $140USD delivered! I don't think I'll even try for a monitor lol, will keep an eye out locally though.

I'd heard Wang being misappropriated for years, and then it was cast in stone with Shadow Warrior. WHO WANTS SOME WANG? Apparently SpidersWeb does!

As my old mate who worked for Wang used to tell me: The difference between Wang and its competitors is Wang Cares.

(say it quickly)

hahaha awesome.
I've opened this machine up, hard drive head was mid-disk (fingers crossed), floppy drive works as new, the amount of electronics inside the machine is breathtaking - its huge!
Keeping it assembled in case I can locate a monitor and keyboard, although may remove the ST412 for testing at least. Interstingly the head controller must only support 3 heads - because the CHS settings written on the drive are clearly a translation mode.

Cool.

If you do post more notes on this beast, don't forget to start a new section in the Repair and Restoration forum rather then in this "Vintage Items Available" one.
