I just Facebooked, tweeted and google+'d as well... :D

Actually, I'm surprised that he didn't use Kickstarter (which I think is now available in NZ) or indiegogo as both of those have large global user bases. I'd never heard of sponsume until this yesterday... That means if I hadn't been at DigitalNationz, or on this forum, I'd have no idea that the project even existed. :?

I got to see the collection Mark has been building over the years at his house a few weeks ago and it was just awesome

It was only a tiny fraction of his computer collection that was at DigitalNationz as it had a "games" focus he mainly bought consoles / early home computers.
He is a collector with the proverbial "Vax (or two) in the garage".

I see that the campaign finished back in December with very little buy-in sadly... $1000 out of the $350,000 goal. Unfortunate...

I would love to see this project move forward, but I don't hold high hopes for funding it this way. NZ is a small market, and the amount of enthusiasts here is likely too minimal to raise this amount nationally - the only real way to raise that capital would, I am assuming, be better coming from commercial sponsors. Perhaps consider approaching IT companies and any large corporate that would see it as an investment, or Motat/Auckland Museum and see if there is anything that they may be able to assist with?

Otherwise a more international crowdfunding site and sell it to the world - obviously it would need to be sold as something to benefit a global interest...

Hopefully Mark will give it another bash... Still a great idea. :)

Looks like it's still happening.
