*gasp* I'd love a Compaq 286 anyway!
Yep the 386 was the important one because IBM didn't want to release a 386 as Intel refused to allow it to be 'second sourced' - so if you wanted a 386 when it was new, you had to turn your back on big blue.
It may be more interesting as far as history goes, but the 286 would be fantastic as well because it was still the major competitor - the only Compaq's in my collection are a 4/25 Contura laptop, 486 portable and Pentium desktop - I'm quite lacking in the Compaq department.
