What machine is this mystery keyboard from?

by kevman3d » Fri Jan 03, 2014 9:36 pm

I posted this question up on the vintage-computers forum to see if anybody there could identify a keyboard that was in the box of Speccies I got from Don. (I guess it was supposed to be modded at some stage - there was also a PET keyboard someone had wired up for the Speccy - but haven't tested it to be honest)

Its an interesting one... Does anybody recognise it? I've placed the image up on my dropbox - image is here:

If anybody wants to take a peek at the VCF post (to see if anybody has identified it) its here:

Hmmm...yes, as you suggested on VCF is looks like it's from a terminal. Which one though?

Well, someone did answer that one on VCF. Its from a Genicom 2120 printing terminal (I wouldn't have ever guessed that in 1000 years  )

That was impressive, I didn't think it would have been possible to identify the source machine for that keyboard. Did you find out what PET (I was fairly sure it was a PET keyboard, but I could be wrong) the other keyboard is from?

Not sure if the mods are reversible but it could be more useful as a keyboard for the original computer.

I know - never in a million years would I have been able to work that one out. I don't even recognise the brand itself, let alone the machine...

I never thought of looking into it - its definitely a PET keyboard from what I've seen online (they all look the same). I might take a peek online at some stage and see.

As you know, there are wires are all over the place - whether anything's been cut or rewired I haven't looked closely at so I dunno how extensive the mods are. I noted that its definitely been used in one of the issue2 speccies - mostly because the keyboard connectors on the PCB are too loose for the normal membrane itself now (they've been obviously pushed and bent wide by those large pins on the ends of the cables). However - I've not actually tested it yet to be honest to see how well it works.

I finally have a weekend without (lets hope nothing changes) visitors. Its a "no excuse for not having any time" weekend so I'll take a peek.
