SD->CF -> CF->IDE

Does anyone know if I can use an SD card in an SD-Compact Flash adapter as an IDE drive on a DOS machine? I don't need to do a bazillion writes/rewrites, I just want a convenient way to backup its 20GB HDD.

After seeing the frankly shocking prices of Compact Flash cards on Trademe, buying a cheap adapter to put in my other cheap adapter and use one of the many 8/16GB SD cards I already have is a much more appealing option.

I've done that before in a XP machine I use as a server, but I'm not sure about DOS. I mean, it should work, but don't take my word for it!

Hmm, I think if it shows up on an XP box it would work for me too... This machine's IDE support & detection routines are more or less modern.

That said I just noticed the DSE 4GB card Tezza used in his thread is only $11 which is cheaper than the SD-CF adapter.

I've got plenty of 8mb to 32gb SD cards floating around, none of which I recall buying, and one 4gb CF card, which cost roughly the same as a class 10 8gb SD card. I use the CF card in my Amiga.

After buying the SD to CF adapter, it usually works out to be nearly the same price, or slightly more than a no-name 4gb CF card.

My XP box is a really old XP machine, so yeah, it should work!

I hope..

Yeah look into that. Current pricing wholesale for CF cards is still frankly horrific.
