After 38 years, goodbye to Dr. Dobb's

Postby artig on Wed Dec 17, 2014 6:56 pm

Sad to see that Dr. Dobb's Journal will stop publication after 38 years. For many years, almost from its start, I subscribed to its print edition. I still have a large stack of the magazines stored away somewhere. It's a few years since I last followed it on the web, but sad all the same to see it closing down. The online articles will still be available, but no new material posted after the end of this year.

Originally the magazine had the title "Dr. Dobb's Journal of Tiny Basic Calisthenics & Orthodontia: Running Light Without Overbyte", which soon changed to "Dr. Dobb's Journal of Computer Calisthenics & Orthodontia: Running Light Without Overbyte" before being shortened even more in later editions. Now it's just "Dr. Dobb's Journal".

I love the steampunk feel of those original names :) Yes, sad to see it finish. A great legacy.

Yeah, I'll be sad to see it go... Not before I buy one of the archive DVD's though. :)
