I've decided it's time to upgrade from my el-chepo Dick Smith soldering iron to something better.

Any recommendations on a good soldering station for vintage computer work? I see Jaycar has a few models but I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts.

I have had a hako 927 since the early '90's.
It wasn't cheap but it has served me well and I expect it will continue to do so for a long time.
I also have some spare tips for it.

Yeah, the wave soldering tables are probably out of our budgets.

I have no complaints yet of this one I got earlier in the year.

Quick to heat up, and the heatshrink wand is motion activated somehow. Shop around for the bag of extras (replacement elements, tips and tools) and to get free shipping.

Thanks for those suggestions. The Saike 909D looks good. I'll scour the web for a few more models and/or reviews before I commit.

Ok, I've committed myself to a Saike 909D. I want to recap my Mac SE/30 with surface mount caps (it deserves the proper treatment) and I need a decent rig to do this with. I've ordered the caps for the job too.

Now I wait...
