z80 and hardware

by LS120 » Wed Aug 07, 2019 8:07 pm

ok, so what i want to ask is i'm not a EE guru. i have a little knowledge but not enough to design and make a pc from scratch. what i want is to play around with some z80 bases systems i have and try some ideas in interfacing things to them.. but i have no idea where to start. i have been looking over the net for the last week and it is so confusing to know whats whats. and a lot is for either a make of system or the s100 systems.. and a lot don't have schematics so i can try to understand. so can anyone recommend a site of tutorial on such things???

thanks

I would suggest starting with Grant Searle's simple Z80 design, then perhaps upgrading to his homebrew CP/M and Sinclair ZX80/81 systems.

Alternatively, aussie Colin Mitchell, who produced the Talking Electronics series of publications, put out a Z80 learner system called the TEC-1.

Hi LS120

Perhaps a System-80 or a TRS-80 Model 1/3/4 as there is a lot of support books for these.

Good Luck
