Matt, were you using it on a BBC B or a Master? The docs speak of some problems with the odd game on the Master. Also what Revision is your board? Mine is Rev 3.

I tried Exile and Cholo. They seemed to work ok for me, although I had no idea what to do with then so I didn't explore them very far. They didn't lock up on me anyway.

I was teased recently when a friend told me he had a 'strange old computer' to give me. It's a BBC Master Compact.

Except he only gave me the keyboard, not the flaming PSU/drive box... 'oh was there more that went with it? there was a monitor but it went to the tip...'

I've got 3 master compact keyboards with no base or monitor!

Well, you don't have to panic about the monitor, I don't recall Acorn making one specifically for the Master Compact. But the bases seem to all get separated from them sooner or later. I expect that because it's "just a PSU and disk drive", people don't think they're that important. I have an Amstrad CPC6128 that is sans monitor - which also had the PSU for the keyboard built into it, so I've never run it. Took all the screws out of it to use the built in 800kB 3" floppy drive in another project, and never got around to doing anything else with it. Yes, I have a handful of suitable diskettes, one of the 'lucky few' from the sounds of things - regarding the floppies, not so much without a suitable PSU!

I've looked at the GoMMC and other storage add ons for the Beeb, I'd love to have one too. I guess now after such a glowing review I'll have to divert a larger portion of my fix funds towards purchasing one.

I would agree with the review on the BBC MMC drive. I have had one since January and it works really well in my Model B. I ordered the 128K sideways RAM board from the same seller which is a great toy to try out different ROMS.
