Bandwidth Allocation

Postby tezza on Thu Aug 30, 2012 12:43 pm

Well, it's good to be popular BUT....

As some of you would have seen, the classic-computers.org.nz domain exceeded it's bandwidth this month. For the past few months it's been creeping nearer and nearer the 8GB/month allocation before the reset (on 1st of the month) and this time didn't quite make it. The forum is accessed a lot, but it's not the main contributor to bandwidth use. More so the System 80 site with some of it's downloadable resources. Also someone from Argentina downloaded about a third of a gig in one sitting at some stage this month so that didn't help. Another cause is where people link an image on the site to a post in a popular discussion forum, which is happening more and more as people find them via Google images. There are ways I can block this, but I'm reluctant to do so as it's good to have the resources being used and seen around the Internet.

Anyway, I've bought some more bandwidth to get the site through to Saturday. If this does happen again (I'll try to make sure it won't), it's likely to be close to the end of the month so rest assured the site will always re-appear on the 1st.

Sorry about the 50 hour offline holiday. Another bandwidth blowout and an unresponsive hosting provider (until I rang them).
