Howdy retro computer troopers,

This Saturday 31st March we will be having an Open Day celebration at the new Hamilton e-Cycle centre which is part of a NZ wide project to develop on-shore processing of e-waste materials responsibly in order to replace the old eDay's and also to capture TV's and as much of the 80,000 tonnes of e-waste that goes to NZ landfills a year as possible.

As someone who grew up with Commodore 64's and Amiga's (through to a 68030 1GbHD A1200) I also have a passion for the fine machines of the past that contributed to the evolution of what we have today (and occasionally had their superiority unrecognized or trampled on).

If there is anyone in the Waikato who would be into displaying some fine antics from a machine of the past there will hopefully be a significant number of people here to enjoy seeing it in action (Mayor, media, public, kids, etc.). Please consider bringing an item or two of your collection into the light of day.

Dragen will you be sorcing C64's Acorns,BBC's,ST's, Atari, Amiga's etc for resale rather than letting them go to landfill or the crusher?

Most definetly be keeping those fine beasts to feed to the enthusiasts... I have received one C64 in fine nick, another not so good, they are both here. We have only been open a month or so, so nothing else of interest yet in the computing field. I will endeavour to look after them as much as poss...

Please note: None of our material goes to landfill. Also the e-Cycle project dismantles as much as possible here on-shore, none goes to 3rd world type scenario's. This is a project supported born out of the Waste Minimization Act, and Fund, administered by the Ministry for the Environment. It is the responsible re-use and recycling replacement for the eDay that ran for several years...

If you do choose to let go of any of your old material please ensure that it is handled appropriately - NZ has 80,000T of e-waste going to landfill each year, with ~8,000T of that being lead, plus other heavy metals such as cadmium, lithium and mercury. We can manage these materials appropriately so that they become the next generation of electronic goods we use, or leave a toxic legacy to those who will live, eat and drink from this land after us. Unfortunately we do need to charge $14/CRT monitor because of the processes involved with dismantling those screens and shipping the leaded glass to an ISO14001 plant in Australia
