Mac System 6 disks wanted

Postby acsi on Wed Jan 14, 2015 3:15 pm

I've decided its high time I found out if my Spectre GCR cartridge works or not but am short the vital Mac system disks to get it running.

The plan is to get it working on my Atari Stacy which theoretically could be turned into a Mac Portable of sorts :D (Just an extremely heavy one)

I had one of these in the late 80's which I ran using my ST or STe. It used to get right up the noses of the Apple geeks as it had a bigger screen and ran faster than the Mac plus (which it emulates), not to mention it was cheaper overall.

So if anyone can lend, sell or provide me with copies of the discs I would appreciate it. I can supply blank floppies if required.

Thanks

Hmm...No I don't have Mac System 6 disks. I seem to remember Mac OS versions up to 6 are now public domain and can be downloaded somewhere?

Yeah its getting them onto the 720k discs that's the problem for me.

Hmm actually I wonder if I could use my HxC floppy emulator? Might try that tonight.

I could try write some disks if you'd like. I can format and write 720k disks, but I've never tried disk images.

Well HxC wasn't any help.

Looks like they need to be copied or written using a DD drive on a Mac as the HD drives cannot handle GCR (need clarification on this). Which may cause me issues anyway as my Stacey has had its drive replaced with a modified HD drive? Still got my STe with its original though so once I've got a HD setup I can copy over files directly from the ST to the Mac HD.

Well I got hold of some 6.0.8 discs from here http://www.rescuemyclassicmac.com

And low and behold the replacement drive in my Stacy has no issues with the Mac discs. Sorry for the grainy photo.

Now to format a Mac partition and install the system on it.
