New joystick for C64

Postby nzswift on Tue Apr 21, 2015 8:52 am

I've been looking and looking for a brand new joystick for my Commodore (the one that is 30 yrs old won't function in all directions). Is there a retail outlet somewhere in NZ that sells such a thing.
Thanks in anticipation

Jon,

I don't know where you can buy any of these new. However, check out the "Vintage Computers" section on Trade Me. You sometimes see them crop up there. Don't forget ebay either, although shipping fees are heavy from overseas.

Yup, Trademe would probably be the best bet. Don't forget the C64 used a generic connector, so Amiga, Atari, etc joysticks will work. As long as it's DB9, and probably pre early 90's. (maybe?)

Thanks for your responses. I always thought Amiga's had a different plug... (the Amiga mice don't work on the 64).

Huh, the Amiga mouse must use a different method of signalling then. My Sigma Logic Ray joystick, which I assume is for Amiga, works fine in my '64. I have only tested that joystick though, but I've heard from other people that 99% work.

Yeah, my understanding is that they are 100% compatible with joysticks and the reason the mice are incompatible is the use of different signals and pinouts. If I remember right the C64 mouse sent the same signals as paddles, but the Amiga used something fancier.
